Mitt Romney tax returns vaccum and Newt Gingrich, the Untouchable. Lessons from South Carolina election.
First of all, tax returns - not Gingrich’s debate performances - have caused Romney a setback in the race. Damage control exercice was poor handled by Mitt Romney when the issue came in front of the agenda. Delaying the publication of documents required by the debate until April just makes the issue worst. It appeared to be sending a message of flaws, which in turn, translated into polls desertions.
Confidence towards Mitt requires the availability of tax returns, not in April, but as soon as possible. It is not an ultimatum, but and advice. Unless the issue is settled, Mitt Romney could face other failing polls results, despite performing in debates. By the way, primaries are not there to select the one who has got best ideas - at this level of professionnal experiences, the candidates are all capable - we are judging characters first and the best chances we have to do this is through their ideas, beliefs and values - as they expose them to the people. Then after we confront their talk to their past activities and behavior including their personnal and marital lifes and social experiences.
At this primary stage, we don’t pay too great attention to good ideas than to those we consider bad ones that have a real potential of disqualification whereas good ideas are not the only decisive factor for the final qualification.
Your ideas are telling me who and what you are, for I need to know whether I - as a voter - can trust you and be sure you’re going to keep your word and promises and do the job as I’m thinking you should. How can I - as a voter - first of all define your personnality - as a candidate - and, second, identify myself to you ? You have to show me you deserve my confidence then get my vote as an award. Convince me you are my best choice, give me some reasons to believe so.
How will Romney keep on going without giving a response here to the man or a woman waiting for it ? Tax returns is due rapidly.
Cain - Gingrich : two standards
Concerning Gingrich surge, two interpretations are plausible. Either it is temporary, a shot in a traditionnal and religious state and Florida will tell the truth of it ; either it is a real resurgence and Florida will tell also. I’m just wondering about the leniency of the media through Gingrich as a womanizer. When Cain Herman was dealing with similar accusations, media were strong to condemn the man and to push that aspect forward keeping it at the front of their comments and in the headlines. With Gingrich, they downplay it, leaving the issue backstage and out of the debate if not silencing the whole matter which has to be sort out and it will...sooner or later.
Were the medias racists being after Herman Cain and now keeping a covert over the relationships between Gingrich with his past two wifes ? Looks like two standards are applied here. Deontology is needed here to apply to Newt Gingrich the same criteria used to eliminate Herman Cain from the racial race. Being white colored should not come as a magic rubber of the past or a white board without memories or as an invisible protection. The process bears a name : cheating, favoritism and racism. Intolerable.
